Dental Implants in Century City

If you are suffering from periodontitis you do not have to settle for dentures. Dental implants are the best way to restore the look and feel of healthy teeth. Your dental implant can consist of one tooth or several. Your smile will look better than ever and friends won’t be able to tell the difference between the implants and your natural teeth.

Dental implants are synthetic structures, typically titanium, that are surgically placed into the jaw bone in the area of the tooth normally occupied by the root. A successful dental implant can support an artificial tooth or permanent bridge. In certain instances, implants can also be used to attach dentures.

There are certain standards to qualify a patient for dental implants. As dental implants are designed to integrate with your jaw bone, the patient must have proper bone density and a strong immune system for the dental implant to integrate with the bone structure. Dental Implants do not repair or restore the periodontal ligament that naturally anchors the tooth, which can result in a slightly different feel during chewing.

As with any dental procedure, a strict oral hygiene regiment is essential to insure the proper integration of the dental implant with the bone structure.

Application of Dental Implants

All dental implant procedures include surgery to prepare the localized area and to install the implant. During surgery, anesthesia will be administered. A period of recovery is necessary following the procedure to allow for the implant to integrate with the bone structure, allowing for bone tissue to build up and truly root the implant in the patient’s mouth.

Occasionally, a follow up procedure installing metal posts into the implant is required to properly connect the artificial tooth to the implant. If there is any concern of infection, antibiotics will be prescribed to the patient following the procedure.

A strict oral hygiene routine and proper care of your dental implant is the only way to guarantee the lifespan of your new dental implant. With proper care, your new dental implant should provide a lifetime of brilliant smiles.
